This week, Skye Learning is spotlighting Shelly Berman-Rubera, a business coach and strategist who is the founder and president of Small Business Results (SBR). She is a Certified Small Business Coach with a Master Certification in Business Management. Skye was thrilled to include her in Introduction to Small Business Management, a course in the Certificate in Small Business Management. 

For 20 years, Berman-Rubera was the small business owner of a lifestyle and fitness company called Professional Fitness by Shelly. For the past 16 years, she has focused on personalized, boutique-style business coaching. Berman-Rubera’s practice is founded on her “SBR Signature System,” including her 6 Steps to Small Business Results.

This week, Skye Learning is thrilled to feature Cynthia Holt, an experienced consultant and nonprofit manager with more than two decades of experience in management, coaching, strategic planning, grant research and writing, and more. She is a subject matter expert for several Skye courses, including Introduction to Nonprofit Management and Strategy for Nonprofits.

Your employees will look to management for guidance on how they are expected to accomplish given goals. You will be called upon to decide the order or priority of tasks, the individuals responsible for completing them, the manner in which they are to be performed, and the tools that will be used to measure progress.

Managers must consider a number of factors when setting schedules and assigning work tasks, including the skill levels and experience of workers and how well a given set of employees work together. Flexibility is key when dealing with unanticipated scheduling problems.

Andrea Davenport is Human Resource Director for Avedis Zildjian Company, a musical cymbal company and the oldest family-run business in America. Previously, she was Human Resource Manager for Dunkin’ Brands and Director of Human Resources for Ninety Nine Restaurants.

Skye Learning was thrilled to include Davenport in the PHR^® Exam Prep Course and in Introduction to Supervision. In addition to her professional background, Davenport has an MS in HR and has earned the PHR^® and SHRM-CP certifications.

This week, Skye Learning is spotlighting Daniel Quinn, a subject matter expert for Skye’s Certificate in Web Design. Skye was thrilled to feature Quinn, who provides expert commentary and live coding demonstrations in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Daniel Quinn is a freelance end-to-end web designer and developer who creates, designs, and develops websites, with a specialty in WordPress, at DQuinn.net. He delivers websites and services to small businesses, entrepreneurs, and established brands like GLAD.org, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, and Harvard University Press.

Dax Grantham is a small business attorney and the owner of Grantham Law in Woburn, MA. Skye Learning is thrilled to feature Grantham as a subject matter expert in Law for Small Businesses.

Grantham provides legal services to business and individuals across eastern Massachusetts, primarily offering general counsel services to emerging small businesses. He also practices in the areas of business/corporate law, personal and business bankruptcy, and business litigation. He has practiced law for nearly twenty years.

Negotiations occur in many different settings. We negotiate with family members, friends, and business associates. Negotiations happen so frequently that we often don't even realize when they occur.  Negotiations occur because people value things differently. 

People are not born with negotiation skills. They must be learned. We engage in many informal negotiations every day; however, in a business setting, more formal negotiations occur. In fact, negotiation is the norm for high value transactions.

Martin is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM®) with nearly 20 years of experience in emergency management, public health, intelligence, resilience, and homeland security. She was worked for the government, the private sector, and the nonprofit sector. Currently, she is CEO & Founder of All Aces, Inc., a consulting company that advances racial equity and builds organizational resilience. Martin is a distinguished senior fellow for the Global Resilience Institute.
