Like former New York mayor Ed Koch, who was famous for his catchphrase, “How’m I doing”, we here at MindEdge and Skye Learning are always looking for feedback from the public.
Comments from our learners, both positive and negative, help us work continuously to improve our courses and certificate programs. And so our question to the public is a simple one: What sort of impact are our courses having on the lives and careers of our learners?
The answer, based on the findings of our first Learner Outcomes survey, appears to be overwhelmingly positive.
Between June 12 and June 22, 2020, we emailed learners who had taken a MindEdge or Skye Learning course in the last six months and had given us permission to contact them about their online learning experience. More than 20 percent of those learners subsequently answered our survey on the SurveyMonkey platform. Here’s what they had to say:
- 84 percent of MindEdge and Skye learners say their online learning experience had a positive effect on their professional life or career, and fully 38 percent cite a very positive impact. Significantly, almost all of the remaining responses are neutral; only 1 percent say their online learning experience was negative.
- 83 percent of MindEdge and Skye learners say their online learning experience was helpful to them in performing their current job, with 38 percent characterizing it as very helpful. Only 5 percent say their course or certificate program was not helpful.
- 69 percent of MindEdge and Skye learners say their online learning experience was helpful to them in preparing for a future job. One-of-three (32 percent) say their course or certificate program was very helpful, and only 2 percent say it was not helpful.
- 70 percent of MindEdge and Skye learners say their online learning experience had a positive effect on their personal life, with 36 percent citing a very positive impact. No one offered a negative response to this question.
Taken together, these survey results represent both an affirmation and a challenge for those of us at MindEdge and Skye Learning. They clearly indicate that we’re getting a lot of things right and helping our learners move forward in their careers. But these results also set a high bar for the future. Our job now is to maintain and even improve these positive ratings. Tune in six months from now, when the results of our second Learner Outcome survey will let us know, once again—how’re we doing?
